Home Start Glasgow North & North Lanarkshire (HSGNNL) has celebrated 18 years of supporting local families at the 2019 AGM & Celebration.

The event, which has become an important part of the organisations diary, was designed to highlight ‘Nurturing Lives’, hearing from families, volunteers, partners and staff about their experiences and the lasting impact of working with Home-Start.

Siobhan and Dionne, both parents supported by Home-Start Glasgow North, shared their stories. “It’s not like having a service” said Dionne, “it’s like having a new friend”. Siobhan shared her emotional and physical journey to Scotland with her young children and the circumstances that led to her connection with Home-Start. “It takes a village to raise a child. Home-Start was my village”. Both Siobhan and Dionne have committed to training as Peer Volunteers to support other families in the future.

The event also heard from Jo, a young mum who participated in the first of our Nurture Groups. As well as telling about her increased confidence as a parent and the new and lasting connections she has made, Jo, along with our volunteer and Group Worker, shared the route to establishing the Nurture Group, the landscape of family groups across the City and why Nurture Group was a great environment for young mothers who can be isolated during pregnancy and from the birth of their child.

We also must thank our friends, partners and supporters for their contributions, including Glasgow City Health & Social Care Partnership, NHS Lanarkshire, Jo Sunshine, Bob Doris MSP and our wonderful host, Ambassador Kaye Adams.

As always, we share our thanks to the wider community for believing in us. We look forward to celebrating another 18 years and more, being there when families need us most.
