How to get help from Home-Start

All parents struggle at one time or another. For some, the challenges can be greater. You are not alone.

Support from Home-Start

At home. In the community. In groups. By phone.

The support we offer is as individual as families themselves. Our service is completely confidential and we respect the cirumstances of each family without judgment.

Most of our support happens within the family home and we respect the very privileged position we are in by being in what is sometimes the most private and safest space for many. We also offer support in the community, within our various groups and remotely by phone, whatever suits you best.

Before a Peer Volunteer is carefully matched to offer support, our professional and friendly staff team will meet each family to identify needs, circumstances and also wider services that may help.

We work closely with colleagues in health, social care and education, however we never share information about our support without your permission. Our service is most effective when based on trusted relationships.

How to get help & support

We are not a statutory service. We work only on the basis of permission, which means our support is designed with families and works at the pace and on the issues that we jointly agree.

Many requests for help & support will come, with family permission, from colleagues in health, social care and education. They also come from family members, friends, community organisations and from parents & carers themselves.

We do not accept requests for support without the permission of each family, who also have the right to end support at any time. That said, much of our work can also be integrated into child or family support plans designed by others, meaning we can jointly address the issues faced in each family circumstance.

If you think we can help, please call or email to discuss in the first instance. Before support, we do require a form, however that should not be a barrier to accessing our service and we can help throughout the process.

If you live in North Glasgow or North Lanarkshire and have a child under the age of 5, and feel we could offer the help and support you are looking for.  Please call us on 0141 948 0441.

Home-Start Glasgow North and North Lanarkshire successful won North Lanarkshire’s Whole Family Wellbeing Fund in April 2024 in partnership with Barnardos, Action for Children and Impact Arts. Barnardos are the lead organisations.

Families Here and Now Service (FHANS) is the service created from the partnership.

This is a Universal Service for families with children aged 0-18 (26 if Care Experienced) and does not include families who are working with Social Work.

FHANS also offers groups which cover a variety of topics ranging from drop in, issues based, and fun based. The service is opened 7 days per week and all support offered is driven by what families and communities tell us they need.

FHANS does not replace HSGNNL services and we continue to support all parents with children up to 5 across North Glasgow and North Lanarkshire, regardless of working with other agencies, such as education and social work.

If you would like more information or want to know how to access the service, please call 01698262443 option 4 or email: NLwholefamilies@barnardos.org.uk

Home-Start Glasgow North & North Lanarkshire groups

Not all of our support and services happen within in the family home. When in-home support isn’t right for a family, or when we are helping to address isolation or loneliness whilst create wider communities and connections, our groupwork offers a supportive alternative. Our groups provide an environment where you can build relationships and boost confidence, alongside other families. Group support is available on its own or alongside 1:1 support and can be part of your Home-Start journey at any stage – even as a transition step when home-based support is coming to an end.

All our groups run from 10am-11.30am and they are term-time.

If you would like more information about coming to one of our groups, you can email us:  info@homestartgnnl.org.uk

ARC (Antenatal Results and Choices) Outreach Project Support

Logo for Antenatal Results and Choices, which is just the words Antenatal Results and Choices.

Through our ARC Outreach Project, we offer independent, confidential, and compassionate support for families who have received unexpected antenatal screening results.

We’re proud to partner with Antenatal Results & Choices (ARC) to bring specialist antenatal support to families in Glasgow North and North Lanarkshire. Pregnancy can sometimes bring unexpected news or difficult decisions, and this project ensures that families have access to understanding, clear information, and compassionate support whenever it’s needed.

We understand that this can be an overwhelming and emotional time, often bringing uncertainty, difficult decisions, and many questions. Our trained staff and volunteers provide a safe, non-judgmental space where parents can talk openly about their thoughts and feelings at their own pace.

We offer clear, balanced information to help families better understand their options, alongside emotional support during what can feel like an isolating time. We can also help families connect with wider specialist services and support networks, ensuring they feel less alone and more supported throughout their journey. Support is available to parents, and we tailor our approach to meet each family’s individual needs.

If you’d like to talk, our team is here to listen. Support can be offered remotely by phone or through one-to-one meetings, depending on what feels most comfortable for you.
