Families Here and Now Service (FHANS)
About us
Home-Start Glasgow North and North Lanarkshire successfully won North Lanarkshire’s Whole Family Wellbeing Fund in April 2024 in partnership with Barnardo’s, Action for Children and Impact Arts. Barnardo’s are the lead organisation.
Families Here and Now Service (FHANS) is the service created from the partnership.
This is a Universal Service for families with children aged 0-18 (26 if Care Experienced) and does not include families who are working with Social Work.
FHANS also offers groups which cover a variety of topics ranging from drop-in, issues based, and fun based. The service is open 7 days per week and all support offered is driven by what families and communities tell us they need.
FHANS does not replace HSGNNL services and we continue to support all parents with children up to 5 across Glasgow North and North Lanarkshire, regardless of whether they are working with other agencies, such as education and social work.

Become a FHANS Volunteer
Do you enjoy supporting families with children and young people?
By volunteering just 2-3 hours each week, you can transform the lives of children, young people and their parents in your community.
Home-Visiting Family Support Volunteers
By visiting families in their home, you’ll be offering vital support to parents, children or young people who may be feeling isolated or overwhelmed. Our volunteers provide kindness, encouragement, and connection.
Volunteers support families by:
- Offering 1:1 support to parents, carers and young people.
- Reassuring parents and carers that the complexities of raising children are a natural aspect of caregiving.
- Encouraging parents’ strengths and emotional wellbeing for the ultimate benefit of their own children.
- Helping young people to build confidence and resilience.
- Fostering meaningful relationships with young people to ease isolation.
- Emphasising the positive aspects of family life.
- Encouraging families to widen their network of relationships and to make effective use of the support and services available in the community.
- Empowering families, helping them to grow in confidence and independence.
Family Group Support Volunteers
Family group support volunteers are a welcoming face for families with children and young people attending groups within the community. You’ll be offering vital support to parents, children or young people by encouraging them to get involved in activities such as arts & crafts, games, and outdoor play. We also provide fun indoor and outdoor activities for families over the school holidays, such as spring break, summer term, October week and during the festive holidays.
Volunteers support families by:
- Encouraging parents, children and young people to get involved in group activities.
- Encouraging parents, carers and young people to build confidence and wellbeing.
- Support afterschool workshops, drop-ins and weekend activities based on communities’ needs.
Volunteers will have the opportunity to learn new skills, meet new people, and receive full training and travel expenses.
