Home-Start Glasgow North Award Win

Home-Start Glasgow North were absolutely thrilled to win “Best Community Partnership with Business” at The Groundwork Community Awards 2019. Competing against 700 applications from throughout the UK, staff had a fantastic evening at the awards at The Royal Horseguards Hotel recognising their partnership with Slanj, a family kilt business.

Last year we approached Slanj Kilts in Glasgow to ask for their support in the Kiltwalk 2018. Our original request was for off cuts of tartan that our walkers could wear as sashes on the walk. To our delight and joy owner Brian Halley agreed to design and gift a unique tartan for Home-Start Glasgow North. With their support we had two beautiful tartan kilts made for our new mascot bear “Slanj” and our Ambassador, Kaye Adams. These helped raise the profile of our work at the Kiltwalk 2018 along with our tartan clad walkers who wore their t-shirts with pride. We were thrilled to raise £14,000 from the walk with staff, volunteers, supporters and Slanj staff joining in the event. This relationship has continued to develop with tartan neckies and snods being developed for use at this years Kiltwalk. With supporters sporting their snods and dogs loving their neckies we again embraced the Kiltwalk challenge with our friends from Slanj Kilts.

Thanks to the ongoing support from the team at Slanj, and their passion for improving the lives of local families, we are currently working with them in developing further products that can be used to raise funds and continue to promote our work. Our next venture is ” Lucky Jocks” made in the Home-Start Glasgow North tartan. These are currently in production and will be promoted at Super Market Glasgow, a small independent market place which gives local traders a fantastic space to sell their wares. These will help raise funds to continue our work with Dads and also highlight the necessary and needed support for work with Dads. 

This great relationship with Slanj has benefited both our organisations in so many ways and we are look forward to continuing our exciting journey helping raise funds, increase our profile and have a lasting friendship.

“Slanj” Bear is also a now a well loved member of our team appearing at events, outings and activities much to the delight of all the families that we support.
